Sage Strandberg – Professional Background
she/they
I am an intern currently pursuing my MS in Clinical Mental Health Counseling with the goal of becoming a licensed mental health counselor (LMHC). As an active member of the American Counseling Association (ACA), I stay informed on the latest research and best practices in the field. My passion for therapy comes from years of experience in childcare and early education. During this time, I witnessed firsthand the unique challenges that children, parents, and families face every day. My background includes working in private childcare settings, private schools, and the Seattle Public School system. These experiences have given me a deep understanding of diverse family dynamics and the various educational environments that influence child development.
Specialization and Focus
I specialize in working with children, adolescents, parents, and families. In my counseling work, I am dedicated to supporting parents and children in cultivating healthy, functional relationships. Additionally, I focus on creating environments where all family members can thrive. I believe that family life is a critical influence on children’s development, significantly impacting their self-conceptualization, behavior patterns, and worldview. Recognizing the importance of play, I utilize it as a valuable method of communication, processing, and relationship-building for individuals of all ages. This approach makes therapy both engaging and effective.
Therapeutic Approach
My therapeutic approach is integrative and grounded in systems theory, utilizing a variety of techniques from Gestalt Therapy, Play Therapy, Strength-Based Solution-Focused Therapy, Creative Therapies, and Family Systems Therapy. I am committed to creating a warm, client-centered, judgment-free environment where my clients and I can work together to foster connection and collaboration. During our sessions, we will explore challenges and strengths, set meaningful goals, and practice essential social-emotional, communication, and coping skills.
When I’m not doing therapy…
I enjoy time in my garden, at the beach, or on the soccer field. I spend time playing games and going on walks with my family. I love working on creative projects like painting, crocheting, and learning to play piano.
