Lourdy Joseph – Professional Background
she/her/hers
I am currently an intern pursuing my Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling (LMHC) at the Chicago School of Professional Psychology. Deeply committed to the field of therapy, I hold membership with the American Counseling Association (ACA). My journey into counseling has been shaped by extensive volunteer work with diverse individuals of all ages, as well as professional experience in public schools and clinics. These experiences have solidified my passion for becoming a therapist. As a Haitian American intern, I emphasize cultural sensitivity and empathy in therapy sessions, reflecting my dedication to inclusive and respectful therapeutic practices.
Specialization and Focus
I specialize in working with youth and young adults aged 8-30, particularly focusing on minorities, neurodivergent individuals, couples, and families. I guide clients through cultural identity issues, family conflicts, low self-esteem, trauma, unhealthy coping patterns, anxiety, depression, and OCD. Passionate about supporting individuals on their journey to self-discovery and empowerment, I look forward to facilitating growth and well-being together.
Therapeutic Approach
My therapeutic approach is grounded in person-centered and strength-based practices. Integrating evidence-based modalities such as Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Play Therapy, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, Relational-Cultural Therapy, and Internal Family Systems (IFS), I believe in the inherent worth of every individual. My goal is to create a safe, non-judgmental, and culturally accepting space where clients feel understood and supported. Together, we will tackle challenges, promote healing, rediscover personal strengths, and achieve goals.
When I’m not doing therapy…
Outside of my counseling work, I enjoy drawing, hiking/running, exploring cultural studies, cooking, and engaging with various forms of media such as music, dramas, and anime.
