Kathryn Hansen- Professional Background

she/her/hers

I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with a Master of Arts from Antioch University Seattle, earned in 2017. After completing Antioch’s Play Therapy certificate program the same year, I achieved the designation of Registered Play Therapist in 2023. In addition, I am AutPlay Certified and a proud member of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT) and the Association for Play Therapy (APT).

My professional experience includes working in community mental health with children, adolescents, and adults from underserved populations. As a strong advocate for my clients’ mental health, I actively collaborate with community supports to foster holistic healing. Over the years, I have partnered with schools, the Department of Children and Family Services, WISe teams (Wraparound with Intensive Services), and medical professionals to ensure clients receive the care they need.

Specialization and Focus

Hoping to offer support from the very beginning, I specialize in perinatal mental health, offering compassionate support during pregnancy, postpartum, and early parenthood. Additionally, I have a special interest in Play Therapy, which I use to nurture family connections and improve relationships. I work with youth and young adults ages 3-21 and their parents, addressing: their parents, addressing issues such as anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, life-adjustment issues, ADHD, social skills, behavioral challenges, and post-traumatic stress.

Therapeutic Approach

The journey into parenthood is a life-changing experience, and I use Lifespan Integration to help clients process perinatal and postpartum challenges. My integrative approach incorporates evidence-based practices, including:

  • Child-Centered Play Therapy
  • Child-Parent Relationship Therapy
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
  • Solution-Focused Therapy

I value the importance of the family unit and encourage caregiver involvement in a child’s healing process. For children and adolescents, therapy offers a developmentally appropriate space to process experiences, heal, and grow. My goal is to help clients see their strengths and achieve their best selves.

When I’m not doing therapy…

I enjoy going on adventures with my family. I also like hitting the trails for a hike and connecting with my dance community.
