Jiah Sin – Professional Background

she/her/hers

I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor Associate with a Master of Arts in Art Therapy from Concordia University. My professional background includes extensive work in community mental health agencies, focusing on providing clinical support to children, youth, and families.

Through my diverse experiences in both clinical and non-clinical settings, such as a child psychiatry unit, intensive treatment program, school, and community agency, I have cultivated multifaceted perspectives. These experiences have equipped me to work effectively with clients from diverse cultural backgrounds and those facing various socio-emotional challenges.

I have received training in several therapeutic modalities, including synergetic play therapy, art therapy, DBT, CBT, and trauma-informed practices. Witnessing clients take their first steps into therapy sessions with a commitment to creating meaningful changes in their lives is truly inspiring. It is my privilege to be a part of their healing journey.

Specialization and Focus

I specialize in working with children, adolescents, and young adults aged 3 to 25, as well as their parents/caregivers and significant others. My focus is on providing support for clients facing a range of challenges, including depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, social difficulties, various forms of trauma, attachment challenges, parent-child relationship issues, unhealthy coping patterns, and emotional dysregulation.

Moreover, I closely collaborate with neurodivergent children and youth, employing a strength-based model to explore self-esteem, emotional regulation, healthy emotional expression, social adjustment, identity, and communication skills.

Therapeutic Approach

I believe therapy should commence in a warm and welcoming atmosphere, where clients’ unique voices and perspectives on life challenges are explored at their own pace. My therapeutic approaches are integrative, drawing from client-centered and systemic models. I incorporate evidence-based modalities, such as synergetic play therapy to help children regulate their nervous system and manage strong emotions, dialectical behavioral therapy, and cognitive behavioral therapy to shift unhelpful thought patterns and apply practical, life-enhancing strategies. Additionally, I utilize art therapy when exploring complex emotions that may be challenging to process through verbal means alone.

Furthermore, I see therapeutic value in collaborating with young clients’ community support systems to ensure they feel supported in multiple areas of their lives. When working with young clients, I actively encourage parent/caregiver involvement to bolster their therapeutic process and enhance their capacity to integrate newfound insights into their lives beyond therapy.

When I’m not doing therapy…

I enjoy kayaking on calm water and exploring new places around the city with my family. Additionally, I enjoy creating paintings while listening to music.
